# Find anything with the Command Bar

Open the Command Bar in Orbit MissionControl with Ctrl + K to jump to a page, run an action, open a saved view or find an order, shipment, tour or other record by name or number.

The Command Bar is one search box for all of Orbit MissionControl. It takes you to a page, runs an action, opens one of your saved views, or finds an order, a shipment, a tour or another record by its name or number. You never have to leave the page you are on to look something up.

**Key highlights**

* **One shortcut:** `Ctrl` + `K` opens it on any page, `Cmd` + `K` on a Mac.
* **Pages, actions and views:** the main lists, most settings pages, actions such as **Create Carrier**, and your saved views.
* **Records:** orders, shipments, legs, tours, drafts, documents, carriers, shippers, drivers, vehicles, addresses and more.
* **Only what you may see:** your role decides which records show up.

## Open it and search

1. **Open the Command Bar**

Press `Ctrl` + `K`, or `Cmd` + `K` on a Mac. The shortcut does nothing while the cursor is in a text field, so click outside the field first.
2. **Type**

Type a page name, an action, a view name, or a name or number from a record, such as an order number or a carrier's name.
3. **Open a result**

Select a result with the mouse, or move to it with the arrow keys and press `Enter`. A page or a record opens where you are; a link to another app opens in a new tab.

## What it finds

The results come in one list. Pages, actions and views come first, records follow.

**Pages, actions and views.** The Command Bar knows the main lists, such as **Inbox**, **Tasks**, **Quotes**, **All Drafts**, **Orders**, **Unrouted Shipments**, **All Shipments**, **Tours Today**, **All Tours**, **Documents**, **Shippers**, **Carriers** and **Drivers**, and the **Insights** dashboards. It also knows most settings pages, from **Profile** to **Roles**, **Products** and **Regions**. Some settings pages are not on it, such as the address book and the accounting pages; open those from the settings menu. Actions include **Create Shipper**, **Create Carrier**, **Report a Bug** and **Send Feature Request**, and **Ask Luna** where Luna is switched on for you. Every saved view you can open shows up by its name: your own views and the views saved for everyone.

**Records.** Each record row shows an icon on the left and the record type on the right. Selecting it opens the record:

| You find | It opens |
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------- |
| An order, a shipment, a tour, a draft or a document | Its detail view in the list |
| A leg | The shipment it belongs to, with the leg open |
| A carrier | The carrier's page |
| A driver, a carrier team or a vehicle | Its page under the carrier |
| A shipper | The shipper's page |
| A shipper user, a shipper team or a shipper address | Its page under the shipper |
| An operator, a product, a product brick, a data pool or a global address | Its settings page |

## How the search works

* **Pages and actions match from two characters** and forgive small typos, so `shiper` still finds **Shippers**.
* **Records need at least three characters.** Below that, only pages, actions and views show.
* **At most five records per type.** When a term matches more, the five best show. Type something more exact, such as the full order number, to find the one you want.
* **Only what you may see.** Orbit checks every record against your role and your assignments before it shows it, so a colleague may get other results for the same term.
* **Your favourites first.** With an empty search box, the Command Bar lists the ten pages and actions you open most often. It counts them in this browser, so another computer starts with an empty list.

When nothing matches, the list shows **Nothing found...**. If a part of the search cannot answer, a yellow line above the results says **Results are incomplete** and names the record types that are missing; the results below it are not the full answer. If the whole search is down, it says **The search is not available at the moment. Please try again later.**

## Example

Sara plans tours for Alpine Freight. A shipper calls about a delivery and reads out the order number. Sara is in the **Tours** list. She presses `Ctrl` + `K`, types the order number, and selects the order in the results. When the call is over, she presses `Ctrl` + `K` again, types `unplanned`, and opens the saved view her team uses every morning.

**Q: Why does the Command Bar not find a record I can see in a list?**

Type at least three characters, and keep in mind that only five records per type show. A longer or more exact term, such as the full reference number, usually brings it up. A record changed a moment ago can take a short while to show in the search; the list itself shows it straight away.

**Q: Why does a settings page not show up?**

Not every settings page is on the Command Bar. Open the page from the settings menu instead.

**Q: Can I find a saved view with it?**

Yes. Type the view's name. Your own views and the views saved for everyone both show up. To create or change a view, see [Filtering lists with views](https://support.pr-9.orbit.do/en/core-features/filtering-lists-with-views).

**Q: Why does pressing Ctrl + K do nothing?**

The shortcut is off while the cursor is in a text field. Click on an empty part of the page and press it again.

**Q: Why do my most used pages differ on another computer?**

The Command Bar counts the pages and actions you open in each browser on its own. A new browser starts with an empty list.
